That was #DigCompOrg

Without even noticing, we have arrived to the end of the jorney, that we started some weeks ago to be closer to the shool we want. Four intense weeks in which we have shared dreams, experiences and efforts to reach this closing date, with challenges overcame and a new badge in our collection. This is how we started dreaming our center in this collaborative Padlet, and this how it looks like after the course: We started the draft of a Digital plan for our schools, and little by little, it got enriched in every stage of our jorney. In her…

Summary of this week’s virtual meeting

Last Wednesday we had a virtual meeting with Pan Kampylis of JRC Sevilla about SELFIE, the self-assessment tool. If you couldn’t follow it live here you can see it now: And that’s how Twitter saw it: SELFIE, the assessment tool by JRC

Because Evaluation is the Key

All the actions oriented to improve pedagogy in schools, with a change of teacher’s role and pedagogical models, promotion of digital competence and open educational resources or adapting curricula to students needs in the digital age, lead to a dead end and to the necessity of going back to traditional models if they don’t come together with a change of the assessment practices. In this article we will link to some reflections, and the originals might be in Spanish. The paradox of proposing new practices in the classroom, and at the same time, keeping the same (and only way) of…

Going digital #DigCompOrg

This week we have asked you to share with us different activities that you have shared across social media channels during these days related to topics from the course, such as teacher professional development, infrastructures for learning, policies for the use of technology, implementation plan and communication. A very intense week that has bear their good fruit. We would therefore like to highlight here some of the works that you have done so far and shared with us. Unit 2 was about the role of technology in school organization, and for this unit we received several examples showing your professional…

SELFIE: learning for the digital era

The Conceptual Framework for Digitally Competent Educational Organizations DigCompOrg, developed by JRC Sevilla and from which we have designed this MOOC, offers schools a guide to reflect on how they apply technologies, both in organizational and pedagogical issues , but always focusing on the final objective of improving students’ education in the digital age. This framework, as we have explained throughout the three weeks that we have been working together in this MOOC, understands the great variety of educational organizations and their specificities – despite of the high number of elements and sub-elements that it collects- and therefore it allows…

Enlarging our repertoire of assessment practices collaboratively

Evaluation is one of the keystones for methodological change in schools. In fact, it is one of the elements included in the JRC conceptual framework that we are working on in the MOOC ‘Digitally Competent Educational Organizations‘. We need to stop seeing evaluation as a qualification-oriented process, expanding its potential as part of the learning process as well. This means not only using more attractive and motivational evaluation formats, which also provide timely, personalized and meaningful information, but also recognizing and evaluating informal and non-formal learning. Digital technologies allow us to design new evaluation activities, as well as to broaden…

We are at the halfway point of the DigCompOrg MOOC!

We have already completed the first half of the MOOC “Digitally Competent Educational Organizations”  that has focused more on organizational issues. In this first half of the course, you have shared many tasks, activities or resources in social media channels that focus on the role that technology plays in school organizations. One of the Professional Development Plans which is worth mentioning is the one made by Laura Brazzabeni, where she mentions that technology acts a facilitator when it comes to sharing and exchanging information and also for professional development of teachers in the form of webinars, online courses, etc. You can…

Comunidad de Práctica

Communities of practice and Teacher Professional Development

The concept of “Community of Practice” has been trendy for more than two decades. The concept is bornt from the work done by Jean Lave and Etienne Wenger, and the latter will develop this concept further in the work ‘Communities of Practice’, published in Spain by Paidós in 2001. Wenger argues that learning is an inherently social process and therefore it cannot be separated from the social context in which it occurs. By relating his proposals in the field of social anthropology and under the paradigm of situated learning, Wenger refers to a community of practice as a group of people who share an…

First steps towards a Digital School Plan

We have now finished the first module of the this MOOC, where we have taken the first steps to learn about “Digitally Competent Educational Organizations”. During this first module, we have had the opportunity to learn about different tools, services and resources, that will allow improving the educational processes. Therefore, this first module has aimed at providing participants with a more global perspective, looking at the educational organisation as a promoter of transformation and designing improvement plans with the support of an Organisation’s management team, or a leading team willing to change the status quo. Despite of the fact that…

A school capable of understanding the new digital culture

Just a few days ago I was reading the last opinion column written by Aitor Lázpita in Cuadernos de Pedagogía, where he wonders if we have not turned technology into the Deus ex machina of the school, this is, something external that comes to solve all problems, in this case the problems of our schools. This reflection seems especially relevant to me to be in the context of this course, where technology is seen as a lever for change and for transformation of the reality of educational organizations. The DigCompOrg framework is certainly ambitious in this sense, as technology in…
